1 – Leather district
Top of our list of things to do in León, Guanajuato is a shopping spree in the impressive leather district. Artisanal shopping doesn’t get much better than this, especially if you’re in the market for the best quality hand-made leather goods on the continent.
Find satchels, bags, belts, shoes, and even elaborate and colorful snake-skin cowboy boots at great prices! 2 – Martyr’s square
Martyr’s square is the heart of León and is one of the best places to people watch, enjoy cultural events, and drink a cold beer at the end of a long day exploring.
The square often holds open-air concerts that are free to the public, early morning dance classes, and most of the city’s parades and festivals take place here.
The surrounding streets are full of high-end restaurants, artsy bars, bohemian cafés, and late-night food stands to refuel on some Mexican comfort food before turning in for the night.
3 – Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazon (Expiatory Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus)
One of the best things to do in León, Guanajuato is to spend a few hours admiring the Templo Expiatorio del Sagrado Corazon church. This neogothic masterpiece was under construction for 91 years and was finally inaugurated in 2012 with the visit of Pope Benedict XVI.
The building’s architecture is reminiscent of Notre Dame in Paris, but without the crowds and long lines! Stained glass windows and colorful Catholic paintings make for a humbling experience once you walk through the church doors.

4 – Guanajuato Museum of Art and History
Learn about the region’s fascinating past and appreciate local and national artworks at the Guanajuato Museum of Art and History.
Permanent exhibitions show famous local artworks detailing key historic moments in León and Guanajuato’s history, displaying some of the most important aspects of regional culture over the years.

5 – Explora Science Center
For a family day out in León, your best bet is the Explora Science Center. Interactive exhibits, video games, science experiments, outdoor play areas, and an IMAX 3D cinema will keep you entertained all day!
